• Navoi is the largest province in Uzbekistan. It is larger than all provinces, except the Republic of Karakalpakstan, • The province is located in the central part of the country. There are 8 rural districts in the province - Konimekh, Kyzyltepa, Navbakhor, Navoi, Nurota, Tomdi, Uchkuduk, and Khatirchi: 6 towns - Zarafsbon, Carmana, Kyzyltepa, Navoi, Nurota, and Uchkuduk; 8 town-type-settlements - Ghazgon, Konimekh, Langar, Malikrobot, Muruntau, Tinchlik, Shalkar, and Yangirabot.as well as 53 villages.

• City of Navoi is the administrative center of the province (509 km away from Tashkent, population -120,600). • Agriculture: cotton, grain crops, horticulture, karakul sheep, farming, vegetables, and cocoon production. • Industry: electricity, mining, construction materials, gold mining.

• The Kyzyl Kum Desert covers the northwestern part of the province. The Nurata Mountain Ranges make up the eastern walls of the province while the Zarafshon River crosses it in the south, The climate is continental. There are tungsten, phosphorus, quartz, and limestone deposits in the province. Also, there is a gold extraction industry next to the gold deposits.

• The Kyzyl Kum also called Qyzylqum , is the 11th largest desert in the world. Its name means Red Sand in Turkic languages . It is located in Central Asia in the doab between the rivers Amu Darya and Syr Darya , and is divided between Kazakhstan , Uzbekistan and (partly) Turkmenistan . It covers about 298,000 km² (approximately 115,000 sq mi).

Economy • Navoiy Region has large stocks of natural gas and deposits of precious metals, as well as large stocks of raw materials for production of construction materials. Among these enterprises are Navoi and Zarafshan Gold Mining and Metallur gical Complexes , which extract one of the purest gold in the world. The enterprise NavoiyAzot is the largest producer of mineral fertilizers in the country.

• Nurata was founded as the ancient town Nur, in 327 BC by Alexander the Great . The remains of his military fortress in the south of the town are still to be seen today and the water supply system that Alexander had installed is still partially used.
