HISTORY OF KARSHI

Karshi – one of the oldest towns of Central Asia. This ancient town has been called Nakhshab, Ksenippa, Nikshapa, Nasaf, Karshi (Qarshi – Markaziy Osiyodagi qadimgi shaharlardan biridir. Bu qadimiy shahar Naxshab, Nikshapa, Nasaf, Qarshi deb atalgan)

Nakhshab (Nikhshapa), which is mentioned in the Aramaic document of the end of the 4th century BC, is the city - site of Yer-Kurgan – the earliest capital of the whole oasis (mil. avv. IV asrlarga oid Oromiy hujjatlarida qayd etilishicha, keyinchalik Yerqo’rg’on nomini Nikshapa xarobalari butun vohaning markazi hisoblangan)

In the epoch of the Early Middle Ages the ancient capital of Nikhshapa at the city – site of Yer- Kurgan, the capital centre of the oasis moved to a new place - the city – site of Shulluktepa (Ilk o’rta asrlarga kelib Yerqo’rg’on tushkunlikka yuz tutadi va vohaning markazi yangi joyga – Shulluktepa yodgorligi o’rniga ko’chadi)

According to the written sources, in two farsahs from the Nasaf ruins Kepekkhan erected a palace around which there was formed a town named Karshi (“palace”) afterwards

This is mosque of Odina Official chronicles confirm the fast of constraction of a big mosque in Karshi by Amir Temur (Bu Odina masjidi. Rasmiy manbalar Qarshida Amir Temur tomonidan jome’ masjidi barpo etganligini tasdiqlaydi)

This is mosque of Kok Goombaz. The building is by the highest order of Abdullakhon II. There were also left some dates - 999- the year of Hegira, corresponding to 1590-1591 of the modern system of chronology

One more unique construction of this type out of those preserved in Central Asia is a Karshi bridge of the 16th century across the Kashkhadarya
